1. About Chirp

In addition to facilitating payments, a bank is mainly engaged in attracting money (savings) and lending money. The latter is not Chirp’s core business. Chirp focuses primarily on payments; the transport of digital money. Chirp will therefore become a so called Electronic Money Institution (EMI). Instead of a banking license, Chirp is required to obtain an EMI license. A Chirp account does not fall within IBAN protocols, which provides Chirp more scope for feature flexibility like its payments derived marketing solutions.

All euros on the accounts within the Chirp platform are 100% covered. The equivalent of the total amount of Electronic Money issued in euros by Chirp is held in (a) bank account(s) of a 'Foundation Clients Chirp' set up especially for this purpose. This foundation manages and secures all third-party funds owned by consumer- and business account holders. The foundation is separate from Chirp BV, acts independently and has its own board and supervisory body.

Whereas Payment Service Providers connect with the existing payment infrastructure and facilitate payments between bank- and credit card accounts, Chirp breaks away from this payment chain. Chirp’s transaction platform lets people connect directly through an account system in the airspace over the payment landscape – free from the intervention of credit card companies, banks and other parties that constitute the traditional payment industry. 2. For consumers

At the moment, only users of the Dutch App Store and Play Store can create an account with Chirp. When Chirp has obtained the required EMI license, Chirp will become available to every resident of the EU (European Economic Area) with a minimum age of 12.

No, use of Chirp is basically free of charge. Creating an account is free and there are no transaction fees. We don’t need bank cards, so neither associated costs are involved.

At the moment you can only pay at merchants participating at Chirp's Proof of Concept. When Chirp has obtained an EMI license, we will quickly expand and connect retailers in the brick and mortar- as well as in the online realm. Our goal is to have EU-wide coverage including pay points at petrol/EV charge-, leisure-, entertainment & restaurant industry and festival/concert venues etc. You may be of assistance in acquiring retailers through Chirp's Early Bird program.

Similar to a bank account, your new Chirp account must be funded before you can make payments. You will first need to have a balance. Via the Chirp app you can easily create balance yourself from your bank account via iDEAL, alternatively you may have received payment from other Chirp users resulting in balance.

If you want to transfer (part of) your balance from your Chirp account to your bank account, you can easily do so via ‘Adjust Balance’ in the app. Enter the amount you want to be transferred to your bank account and we will transfer it to your linked bank account within the same day.

With most payment apps (apps from banks, Apple Pay, PayPal, etc.) you still pay from an existing bank account or credit card in the traditional system. At Chirp, things are fundamentally different. With Chirp you do not use the traditional payment chain comprised of banks,credit card companies and third-party service providers. Transactions occur within Chirp's own ecosystem between its own platform accounts. Chirp’s extremely efficient transaction platform can now offer more services than just payment.

Chirp does its utmost to prevent unauthorized access to personal data, balances and credits by deploying advanced security architecture and solutions. Robust an redundant systems provide 24/7 performance and accessibility. Euro- transfers from your Chirp account to the banking realm can only take place to a bank account authorized by you. Chirp’s two-stage outbound transaction system with tracing and monitoring acts as extra safeguarding your euro balance. You can read more about this on our privacy page.

No, your personal data is not by Chirp shared with -, nor sold to third parties. Unless you explicitly indicate that you want to share information with other specific users of the Chirp platform, Chirp will not share your personal data with third parties. 3. For businesses

Chirp is currently still in the Proof of Concept. Due to the limitations of this phase, it is unfortunately not yet possible for an organizations to create a merchant account without the assistance of Chirp. When the PoC-status changes, we will l communicate this as soon as possible. Then you can easily create a merchant account for your company via the website by providing the necessary KYC-documentation.

Retailers have access to Chirp's Marketing Studio via the online dashboard. In this studio, retailers and organizations can easily create their own campaigns, such as loyalty programs, voucher promotions etc.. Campaigns parameters can be fully configured according to your preferences. The campaign is set up accordingly and can be automatically become available to all or to specific consumer segments.

Every transaction within Chirp takes place with euros that have already been funded on our platform by the users prior to the transaction. In this way, the total balance on the Chirp platform is always 100% covered and all outstanding balances are managed on the third-party account Stichting Clienten Chirp. This foundation is separate from Chirp and has its own board with its own supervision. Your received payments are always guaranteed.

Payment proceeds become immediately available in your Chirp account and you can (partly) transfer them to your own bank account at any time.

tNo any additional or specific hardware is required to accept transactions via Chirp. Accept payments via the free Chirp Merchant app on your own tablet, smartphone or desktop PC. We are currently working on an API to integrate Chirp into your current (web) POS system.
